Fashion Show

Today was a great day! Thanks to a storm last night, it was a bit cooler today. It was overcast so the sun never really came out strong until the afternoon. Only 3 more visiting days to go, so it’s time to start wrapping things up here. While I sat in one of the little huts with the kids and played, Kev went around Umit and did a walking video tour of the orphanage. Because it was Saturday, things are a bit more quiet. The Director went to Almaty so the rules were a bit more relaxed. Not much, mind you, but a little. We need to start thinking about what we have for the kids: bath toys, clothes, shoes, bedding, etc. We had been told to bring coats and sweaters and long sleeves…needless to say, I’ll be shopping at the bazaar again before I leave. I found a little pair of shorts for Dub, basically sweatpant weight shorts that were only about 75 cents a piece. I know I can’t find that even at TJ Maxx in the states! SO I’ll go stock up on those. They're not very fashionable, but easy for him to garshok himself, whereas overalls tend to be a little harder to get off! Speaking of garshok, I’ve been told that Dub and Lena’s Aunt Cici is going to name her new Siamese cat Garshok (which is translated “potty”). We love the name and now that it’s on the internet, it has to stay. You know everything you read on the internet is true!

In a family full of girls, we love to shop! I remember as a teenager, going shopping with mom and my sisters and we’d come home and give Daddy a fashion show to show him what we got! So today we had a little fashion show to see what we had, what fit and what we still needed to get. We stripped off the colorblind clothes of the day, and let D&L try on everything we brought.

This is one of my favorites. It really seems real now that they have footie jammies and a blankie and their sippie cups. Up till now, they’ve seemed so much older, but this one touched my heart!

This one was so cute. When you shop at the bazaar, you don’t know what country you are getting clothes from and what size they are going to be. Each country’s sizes are so different. So I had to pick these pants (thought they were long pants, not ‘hood pants) without having Dub there to measure. They’ll be hemmed on Monday! Thanks to the Barnetts for the tee shirt and the saddle oxfords.

Contrary to the look on Lena’s face, she loved this dress. (So did Dub if you look back at the post from a few weeks ago!) Thanks to the Miller family for this cute dress. Yes, it has Rudolph on it, but Lena won’t care!

Thanks again to the Barnetts for these cute construction overalls. We’ll have to see if we can find a patch for Lena’s to cover the construction truck. Dub kept pointing at the bulldozer on his clothes and saying, "machina!"

I can dress myself! Go away!

You talking to me?

Let’s see what trouble I can get into now!

Oh yes, they call her the streak!

Adam and Eve??? Did we mention Lena has a REAL outie belly button? What is Dr. Lesson’s phone number?

But...but...but...but...but...

And this has nothing to do with Taraz, but a friend from Denver sent this to me and I had to share it. Turn your head to the left and look at the image! God is Awesome!

We finished the evening with dinner at Bosfor, our favorite restaurant and asked Vera and Mit to join us. Several dark Russian beers and 3 courses later, we are just rolling home. Mit was laughing at Kevin’s full belly. The Kazakhs would say, “Why are you so skinny and have a belly like a homeless goat?” We all had a good laugh at that. Especially when you see a picture of Mit and he might weigh 120 lbs. soaking wet!

We had a nice stroll through the square where we saw a new attraction in addition to the rollerblades, bull riding, moonwalks and air hockey. It is a tractor pulling little swans on wheels- children ride inside the swans (like a paddleboat) and the tractor pulls them around the square. Can’t wait until next weekend to let Dub and Lena ride in the swans! I can’t believe that this time next week, we’ll have real honest-to-God children! Praise God! Halleluiah!

Thanks for the prayers and the comments. Please leave your name on the comment or it comes out as anonymous and we don't know who sent it!

Love,
The Sandlin Family

The yellow vest on Dub makes him look EXACTLY like Kevin!!! I love it! Angel, don't shop too much because Aunt Caroline wants to buy some goodies too! Cousin Jessica is eagerly awaiting the chance to paint some cute little fingernails and toenails soon too! We're counting down too so we can give some hugs! Love, Caroline
